A book no parent will read without crying (for good reasons)

If you don't cry you have no heart!

I Love You Little Monster - Giles Andreae

I am writing this post in tears as I have just tucked M up in bed having read this book to her as her night-time story. I say I read it, well to be more precise I read the first couple of pages and then choked the words out through tears for the remaining pages.

I thought maybe it was hormones that caused me to get so emotional but I have since checked reviews of the book (I had a library copy and I just HAD to buy it), and noticed that almost every review contained the words "I cried when I read this". Phew, I am not an emotional wreck.

I took this book out of the library as I loved the name of it. M is our monster and I love her so it was only common sense that I would go for this book.

It is written by the same people who wrote Giraffes Can't Dance, another firm favourite in this household, and it uses the same lively poetry to tell the tale.

The story tells the tale of what many parents feel - they have so much they want to say to their child throughout the day but were unable to.

Little pretends to be asleep whilst Big lets Little know just how full his heart is of pure and utter love for his beautiful child.

It got me right in the heart - it is hard to ever put into words or displays just how much you love your child and how you never want them to see anything bad but that they inevitably will.

It is such an emotive story and as I say I struggled to read to the end as I was a bubbling mess but I just have to buy this and add it as a book that we can read every day of the rest of our lives.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has a child.

Training Mummy

Training Mummy is a 30 something mum to two beautiful children - a girl born February 2014 and a boy born in October 2015.
