Piling on the pounds for summer

Many people try actively to lose weight as the summer months approach. This year I won't be one of those people. Nope. This year I will be turning into a beached whale as I grow my second child in time for its eviction date in late September.

Today we met our second baby when we had our 12 week scan. I thought I would be less nervous this time round, and I was to a point, but I still was sick with nerves. All day yesterday I was worried about it and I couldn't sleep at night. The appointment was at 9.30am but we didn't get seen until 10.30am as they were so busy and that hour felt like a lifetime (wasn't helped that we watched Jeremy Kyle in the family room).

Last time I cried in the car, scared that there was no baby in my belly. This time I didn't have that fear. I know it will sound daft but in the last week I have felt movement. Most will say it is gas but this was different to that and much like the first kicks I have when I was pregnant with M (who I felt move at 13-14 weeks).

When we got the scan I was so scared. There was nothing there! Good news as it was my bladder that was in focus. When there was a baby. Still. Not doing somersaults like M was. I got so scared but the midwife said it was fine, it was just sleeping and showed be the heartbeat. Phew. Throughout the scan it pretty much stayed asleep. She said it did move a few times but I am sure she sees different things than we do.

It was such a great relief to see our baby and to find it was measuring fine. 12 weeks exactly, giving us a due date of September 30. It is still so surreal to think that we will in a few short months have another baby to look after, another child who will fill our hearts with joy and love.

This time we have a 16 week appointment which I am happy with. Last time we didn't see a midwife until 24 weeks and I used to get so jealous of everyone talking about their 16 weeks appointments.

I will have to be consultant lead this time round as I had an emergency section last time so I know my only option is to go to hospital to birth. At 24 weeks will see the consultant and we will discuss our birth options. I would like a VBAC but I don't know if that is an option or not. Time will tell.

As with M we won't be finding out the sex of the baby as I loved the surprise at the birth.

Only 28 weeks to go!
