Making things with love and care

Love the satisfaction of hand-making items for my children

Since I became pregnant with M, so many moons ago, I have felt proud of my ability to occasionally make her an outfit or two (when I have had time). So it was just natural for me to want to make something for Button for his or her arrival in a few weeks time (though today would be just as grand Button).

For months I had not made anything, my knitting needles have been stored away, sewing machine is gathering dust and crochet hooks have always just been a decoration. So I was worried I would not remember how to make anything.

I decided to knit a jumper for Button and chose what I thought would be an easy pattern - oh how confused I ended up being - and went about making a nice cosy jumper for a little baby.

The great thing about making your own things is that you can choose your own colours - I love colour so chose the brightest wool I could find.

After rediscovering the joy of making things I have decided to make M a blanket for her big bed using crochet. Now crochet is not something I feel confident doing but I have since learnt that making granny squares is quite simple to do. The only problem is that the blanket is going to take months to make!

When I was little me and my brothers all had a blanket our granny had crocheted and I would love M to have a blanket that she loved so much (and maybe kept and used for her children).

Now I am looking for lots of patterns for things to make my children (and I had an order of a hat from my hubby).

The only thing I need to find is the time!

Training Mummy

  1. I have tried crochet a couple of times and just can't get it. I think my knitting days will be some time in the future - if I EVER find the time to sit and knit!
    Looks fab xx

    1. If you haven't tried granny squares then I would suggest you do as they are easy. I could not go and crochet a jumper though...

  2. That blanket is going to be so beautiful. I have tried so hard to crochet but like Sarah I just can't get it right, luckily my mum and mum in law are both adept knitters and crocheters!

    1. I am lucky that my mum can knit ell so we often put requests in for cardigans and jumpers but love being able to do it myself (though it takes 100 times longer lol)
