Mindful Mama: Happy Baby - a review

Mindful Mama: Happy Baby - Susannah Marriott and Maja Pitamic

Despite being a mum of two there are so many times that I wish I had more ideas on what to do with the kids when they are (and I am) feeling a bit bored so when I was offered the chance to review a new book "Mindful Mama: Happy Baby" by Susannah Marriott and Maja Pitamic, I could not refuse.

Written by two experts and experienced parenting authors, based in the UK, the book contains more than 50 mindful play activities for parents and young children (from newborn-3 years+) as well as meditations, practical mindfulness and restorative tips to calm and energise parent and child.

There is also timelines that highlight a child's emotional needs at each age stage.

This all sounds very good on paper but I wondered just how good it would be in reality.

My first impressions were good. The book was well set out and had easy to read. With just the right text to image ratio for this particular type of book. I worried it might be too heavy a read but it really was so quick to read and flick through from section to section.

With a 10 month old and a 2 year old I had plenty of chances to move from section to section of the book and have so far had huge success with the majority of activities that I have done. It is not just focused at the kids but has some helpful de-stressing ideas for parents too which is important and a lesson I am learning that I need as well.

Some activities you will already do without thinking but there are so many ideas that I had not thought of doing, especially for my eldest who got the benefit of taking part with many of the activities for younger stages and older stages as they are relevant to her as well.

This if full of fun and easy activities. They are simple to set up and hugely fun and educational for children.

The timeline has been useful to me as I had been worrying that M was behind with things like counting etc but the timeline has put my mind at ease with that one but also shows that she is ahead on a few things too, which of course makes me feel a proud parent!

The book has been well used already and I can see me using it a lot of the coming years. Great for rainy days idea, outdoor games, arts and craft suggestions. It is all covered.

I haven't had this book for long but already it has been well used.
