Bosum Buddies Breastfeeding Oils #WorldbreastfeedingWeek

When you start breastfeeding it may seem like a daunting journey and you may find that you have sore nipples, sore boobs, don't know if you are producing enough milk, and you may feel like giving up. Before you do that I would highly recommend you buy a box of Bosum Buddies Breastfeeding Oils which can help ease some of the common complaints about breastfeeding.

Developed by midwives at the Natural Birthing Company these essential oils have been chosen because they are safe to use whilst breastfeeding and also helpful for nursing mums.

Additionally they have been shown to help keep the body's immune system strong (could this be why I have yet to feel so run down like I did with M and F?).

The Oils

Bosum Buddies consists of three different blend of essential oils:

Ooh

Do you have heavy tender breasts? Engorgement? Mastitis? Well this blend of essential oil is perfect for you (although please check in with your doctor if you think you have mastitis).

Ouch

Perfect for sore, painful nipples. This is what made me quit breastfeeding F if I am honest and as soon as I started to get pain with O I checked and changed my latch and used this oil along with Lansinoh nipple cream to help take away the discomfort and ensure I could continue feeding. Thankfully this combination seemed to work wonders.

Aah

If you think you have a low milk supply then this is the oil blend to help with that.

All three blends also help with low mood or anxiety, tension and stress  - all things that can reduce milk supply or cause pain.

Did they work?

Using essential oils is something I have never really believed in before. It was mentioned I could use them in pregnancy at midwife appointment to help with my anxiety over having another c-section but I never asked more about this. Maybe I should have but I have never really been one for relaxing so I just didn't really think about it.

When I tried these I can not tell you if the oils is what helped me or not but after using Ooh and Ouch them I certainly felt less uncomfortable and sore. Would this have happened anyway? I am not sure but certainly after using them I felt better.

To use you add 2-3 drops of the chosen blend of oil to a bowl of water - hot for heavy, full and tender breasts to ease the flow or cold to ease the discomfort or swelling, hot for low milk suuple, cold for sore nipples.

I used muslin clothes which soaked in the bowl before placing on both breasts then covered with a dry towel to keep warm for half an hour, or as long as I had time really. Then cleaning both breasts prior to feeding again. Quite nice to have a bath and good book at the same time.

Conclusion

These are very easy to use and very relaxing (if you can find the time). It certainly helped me feel more comfortable and I believe helped me to continue breastfeeding when at times I may have considered giving up.
